Dark Souls Remastered Bullet Review
Overview and Facts:
- This is the game that inspired a whole category of games known as SoulsLike
- A pioneer in world design
- Ported to every current and last generation console
- You are gonna die a lot in this game
- It was inspired by the Demon Souls
- Includes co-op and PvP multiplayer
Pros:
- Great improvement over the original
- Integrated DLC (Awesome and really hard)
- Graphics hold up and look incredible, despite the game's age
- Great performance 60fps, despite the console. Also, works great for PCs and Steam Deck
- Huge interconnected world
- Great RPG Elements
- Tons of different fighting setups
- Probably the best difficulty setting out of most games. It's difficult and if you want to make things easier you just grind levels
- Fantastic bosses
- New game plus rocks, since you get to continue to improve your build and have extra difficulty up to New game plus 7
- Two endings
- No hand holding. No tutorial. They trust you to navigate yourself through the game and make decisions, even if those decisions are sometimes locking you out of content
- Gitgud. If you play Darksouls you need to find out what that is
Cons:
- If you play the game for the first time you will find yourself lost, or sometimes stuck, due to the world's complexity and lack of navigation support
- Bad inventory storage system
- The end game area Lost Izalith is an unfinished area with multiple repeated foes and feels rushed
- Lost Izalith's Boss, The Bed of Chaos, is just awful
- You need a guide for some builds. For example, faith build requires to have lvl 30 faith stat on the first area which, if you are not aware of, could make you skip a main faith ability
- For some builds, you need to grind items from co-op online play, which a solo player may not prefer. Such as Greater Lightning Spear
- Some Items/Miracles are available only at New Game Plus, such as Sunlight Spear, which you need the soul of the last boss in the game to obtain
Neutral:
- Awesome lore which you get to learn by exploring the world, but this is also a chore, since in order to learn all about the world you need to complete multiple playthroughts
Verdict:
If you are willing to invest a lot of time learning the world of Dark Souls be prepared for one of the greatest games of all time. Praise the sun!
★Personal Score: Positive: 90 (Played on PS5)
