Demon Souls Bullet Review

Overview and Facts:

  • One of the PS5 launch titles
  • It is also PS5 exclusive. I actually support exclusive games, since they tend to offer superior performance on the console, adding features that might not have been available if it wasn't exclusive. Also they add value to the console itself (Unpopular opinion)
  • The original Demon Souls was actually the first Souls game to ever be made and was released on PS3

Pros:

  • Damn fantastic graphics
  • Great for magic users (Some people might say that magic builds are the game's easy mode)
  • Classic Souls Feel
  • New game plus offers a lot possibilities to expand your build
  • Fracture World feature is interesting and offers a new point of view to the game. You can flip over the whole world and play the game like you are in a mirror (left becomes right)
Cons:
  • You probably need a guide to navigate through this game properly
  • Adaptive triggers on PS5 could use a lot of improvement
  • Healing is done through consumables. If you die a lot you will find yourself out of healing items and against a wall
  • Final boss is a let down
  • Short game (For my tastes and for its price)
  • Easy to mess side quests up and get locked out of progression (That's true for all FromSoft games)
  • Can level up only in maiden (If I am already on a bonfire it is a waste of time making me travel to the hub just to level up)

Neutral

  • Linear gameplay. This can be great for some people, but gamers that are used to open world games or have played Elden Ring before Demon Souls might feel constricted
  • There are some really strange elements for a Souls game. For example, on a specific spot you are able to jump over a wall to the other side and complete a quest. This is something you are not able to do throughout the whole game and feels weird, since you don't have the ability to jump.

Verdict:

Definitely a game worth visiting, for the right price. People that thought other Souls games are difficult are bound to have a really rough time. I know I had my fair share of rough patches.

Personal Score: Positive: 82 (Played on PS5)
Play Time: 60 Hours
